![]() Not a big issue for me, but worth noting. Important Note: The only noticeable downside to this approach is that you can no longer drag and drop files into the sidebar aliases, as you can when there's an actual folder in the sidebar. ![]() Using an alias, I can have my smb://.local/Collating/Photos/ folder appear in the sidebar as □ Collating Photos, without touching the actual folder name itself. I've got a number of network folders in my sidebar and they all have the same name "Photos" for example. Then I renamed those to include whatever emoji icons I want to help visibility, and added those aliases to the sidebar.īonus: You can make the names themselves more descriptive. I created ~/Library/Sidebar Aliases/ folder and dropped a number of aliases in there (Command-Option drag the folder). Instead you can put an alias to the folder in the sidebar, and have that alias contain the emoji. You get better visibility and much faster access.īest thing I've managed to do for easy visibility is to add emoji to the names of the folders.īut of course you likely don't want to add emoji to the folders themselves. Best thing to do is ignore them globally.I'd love to be able to change the icons without an add-on. Nice as these icons are, they're really annoying to work with when you use Git. You can do this in the General preferences pane. ![]() Note that, if you use mySIMBL, the icons will look best if you set the Finder's sidebar icon size to "small". The image is a screenshot from how I've currently organized my Finder sidebar. I use this in conjunction with the mySIMBL plugin for turning the Finder sidebar colors back on (colorfulSidebar9), which lets you put projects you commonly work on in a place where you can easily see them, while making it easy to identify the project type. Each size is set up as a slice in the PSD file, so to save a new iconset all you need to use is Save for Web. Feel free to submit new icons you make.Įach icon includes seven responsive sizes (16×16, 128×128, and and work on both retina and non-retina displays. so ive only been able to put the other sidebar sizes inside. Drag and drop plugins onto mySIMBL to install them Open bundles with mySIMBL to install them Delete plugins (Trash can) Show plugins in Finder (Magnifying Glass) Enable/Disable plugins (Colored Circle Icon) Show plugin developer page (Globe Icon) Detect existing plugins Update plugins with ease Automatically keep plugins up to date And. the sidebar icons have an icns at 18pixels, yet terminal will not convert my 18px png to an icns, nothing happens, says damaged maybe. This icon set includes a number of Folder icon color modifications, and there's PSDs that you can easily use to create new icons. If you have the SIMBL plug-in AFLOAT installed and have not included AppleScript Utility in mySIMBLs blacklist, you MUST blacklist Disk Utility 13 (607) (see screenshot 'AFLOAT users mySIMBL application blacklist'). do i have to use mySIMBL and colorfulsidebar 9 and disable System integrity protection in yosemite works someone please help. I havent checked in a while but I think skype used to crash if mySIMBL tried to load into it. This repository contains a number of folder icons I made for Mac OS X/macOS, for organizing project folders by color. There are other issues with some third party apps I think.
